#Patrondidit

So its been a crazy 24hrs! Full with class, studying, chicken, beer, patron, the meeting of my newest stalker or possibly my soulmate, tweeting in class, preparing to be ho'ed in class, and so on... And somewhere in that mix I lost my voice. I blame it all on patron what else can I do. Geez and this wasn't even a weekend!

You Know You're A Law Student When......

Here are some law school woes from fellow law students:

You consider dropping out of law school approximately every hour, but after that first semester you realized you were already in too much debt to be anything other than a lawyer.

You can name without hesitation at least three people who make you want to throw things when you see them raise their hands in class.

You think IRAC and CREAC are just code for saying the same thing over and over.

You are truly and deeply unnerved by the thought of some of your classmates becoming solicitors or advocates.

Sometimes during disagreements you are tempted to 12(6)(b) the offending friend or family member.

You can’t remember if you decided to come to law school because you wanted to help people and make a difference in the world or because you hate yourself.

The Sky Might Fall, But We're Not Worried At All

So spring semester is pretty much in full swing. That doesn't mean much to us right now, lol. We'll kick it up when the time comes, but for right now we are doing an excellent job going out drinking and just enjoying each others company. We've gone out on a few school nights and all I can say is thumbs up even if I feel like shit the entire next day. I suppose there will come a time when it won't be wise to go out so much, but to be honest I can't see it.

Last week Ksims, AMD and I saw Wale and a bunch of other people perform at a benefit for Haiti. For that short time I started to feel like a real student at The Mecca as they so affectionately call it. Btw I'm not sure feeling like a real student at The Mecca is a good thing. But nevertheless we went out to Lotus afterwards and had quite a good time and drank just the right amount to facilitate that good time!

For a small group of law students we sure have some action packed lives and I've only given you a taste of one evening. I'm try to take some pictures so we capture the random fun we have...that which is professional photo appropriate of course :)

I suppose we should be more stressed out but there is something about being around other people who have the same stresses as you that puts your mind at ease. So far we have gotten through this thing together and I pretty sure there's a reason for that. So I'm confident we can get through anything! I love Real HUSL!!!

Billy Jensen, I hate you.

I just don't get it. How many times do we have to revise and rewrite this memorandum regarding Billy Jensen and his shenanigans? Ridics. First he seemed all innocent...getting caught with some weed smoking kids and being subjected to a strip search. Now we find out that he is the most notorious thief at his school? I am soooo over this hypo-freakin-thetical. I don't care about this fake boy that does not exist. I wish this was a show and we could just kill him off. On to the next one already! Sheesh! Okay, enough of my rant. Time to write........

Grades are up

Greeting blogosphere,
Grades went up on Saturday, about a full 24 hours after they were supposed to be up, but hey what can you do...anyways, I'm confident in saying that the Real HUSL did well on their first semester law school exams. So congratulations to us!!! I'm not gonna lie, I'm probably going to try and do some detective work to figure out who is in academic achievement...I figure it won't be too hard (sad face?, volunteering more than usual in class?, actually spending time studying in the library? --> youuuuu might be in section 4). Maybe I'm evil for this, but I honestly cannot help my nosey behavior.

In other news, I read on some website or another that a new movie script detailing MLK Jr.'s life includes him having various extramarital affairs? Did everyone know about this? Because this is news to me....and WHY are people trying to hate on MLK Jr. on his national holiday?!?!? Dang, can't they wait until at least tomorrow....?

Peace & Love,

Tourettes

I think being back in law school has led me to developed stress-related tourettes. I am now prone to sudden inappropriate outburts, usually directed at my teachers. For example, I recently tried to summon my legal writing teacher by screaming her first name from across the room and immediately pretending like I didn't do it. Probably not the best of ideas. My contracts professor wrapped up a class this past week by saying, "We'll continue with the cases next class." This was puzzling to me because we had not even begun discussing the cases we were supposed to, so I somewhat accosted her by saying, not so quietly, exactly that.

Anyways, we are all grateful to have a long weekend. Praise God and MLK Jr.'s birthday.

Until Next Time,
Kyra

That is all.

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

Oh-em-gee con law is bor-freakin what?! ing. Oh well, what can we do but sit there and stare and try to stay awake. I mean we are all trying to get back into the groove which has proven to be difficult. From being jet-lagged to being deprived of luggage and pretty much just wanting to chill, all concerns have to take a back seat because we're in the "land of the law."
As we adjust, we are forced to remember our bodies being in this state of exhaustion. Our relatively short break let us feel normal again and now we are back at it. Okay so let's recap the horror that is second semester of 1L year @ the HUSL.

Criminal Law- we were all anticipating this class and lowkey excited but ummmm why is it kind of a bore? Maybe we haven't tapped into the "good" stuff yet. And what is it about the prohibition on all drinks INCLUDING WATER?!?! Ridics.

Constitutional Law~ already touched on that. Here was a funny quote on the syllabus from our professor: "Do not approach me at the podium before or after class." AKA Back the eff away from me you silly 1Ls.

Legal Writing~ Daunting and irritating for my colleagues in the other writing sections. After the first day of class we all thought to ourselves: Billy Jensen can kick rocks!

Contracts- Same old, same old. The prof comes late, holds us overtime, and during the overtime period discusses the important stuff. *sigh*

Torts II- Where boldness ensues! Our class is reckless here. It'll be interesting to see our prof wrangle in the many disrupters.

and last but not least

PROPERTY~ this class is a big freaking what?! HIT. The irony, we dreaded it and it is comedy so far! Our professor is a nutter and its greaaaaaaat. Can't wait for tomorrow :)
(wow, I can't believe that I'm juiced about a law school course)

And the Beat Goes On

So Property is gonna be hilarious!!! Exactly what we need at 9am. Im so glad we seem to have such a cool professor, well it seems that way. It would be so crazy if that was just an act for the first day. That cat is freakin-what-hilarious! Although sometimes I can't keep up with his call and response style but it his dramatics make things easier to remember. Im sure thats why he does it and I like that. I appreciate when Profs truly have an idealogy about teaching and put effort to be one way or another.

Next up is Torts we have that later today, and that's looking like its gonna be a pain to put on the back burner this semester like we need to because its only 2 credits. Although class is really annoy I find office hours to be very useful with that prof so I will attempt to go even more this semester.

Right now its only day 2 we feel like the work is piling up! I'm overwhelmed, so forget the big picture right now lets take it day by day, hour by hour.

LEMO-FREAKING-WHAT?!?!?1-NADE!!!

Property is going to be freaking hilarioussss. Who doesn't love talking about selling eggs and sperm?

Well it's the first official day back in the life of a 1L and it's safe to say that all of us are less than thrilled. The day started off with most of us entering the twilight zone, a.k.a. writing class with sha-shana. As we update this blog more, you'll DEFINITELY be hearing more about her. For now, it will suffice to say that she's insane, has trouble explaining the simplest concepts, and after 4 months still can't pronounce how my name is spelled (*hint* ky-ra, just like it's spelled). None of us are too excited to spend another month writing about goddamn Billy Jensen either.

Contracts was also more of usual. Our professor decided it would be a fabulous idea to go to the DMV right before class and didn't show up until 15 minutes before class was over. I still consider it time well spent; we got to discuss our simultaneous obsession with True Blood (Nicole and I got addicted over Christmas break, Udeme was ahead of the curve- no pun intended) and catch up on how tired we were/how much we hate school/how much it sucks to be at school...etc.

Constitutional Law was our only new class of the day. Today was basically a review of things a lot of us probably discussed in undergrad; the purpose(s) of a Constitution, separation of powers, fundamental rights, John Locke blah blah. It was good though because I feel pretty familiar with this stuff which is a good confidence booster going into this hellish semester. I'm also looking forward to reading a lot of cases I haven't heard of before, considering we're focusing more on the powers/duties of the branches and how they exercise their power as opposed to the protection of individual rights, which is the area of Constitutional Law I am more familiar with. Ughh that was probably a pretty boring paragraph but oh well.

In other news, I have been back in D.C. after spending my break in Ann Arbor (Go Blue!~) and Colorado and have yet to receive my luggage from Delta after 2 days. I'm officially emotionally drained from being on hold for hours and no longer care as long as it comes soon. Crim. Law homework to get to, so I'm signing off.
